Abandoned and Inoperable Vehicle Removal

Cars with flat tires and expired tags, missing parts, or no owner in sight take up spaces and attract more problems. California gives property owners specific ways to remove them, and we handle the tow, storage, and required notices.

Your options under California law

  • • With compliant tow-away signs posted, an abandoned vehicle can be removed like any other unauthorized vehicle, with a signed authorization for that tow
  • • If a notice of parking violation was issued and 96 hours have passed, the vehicle can be removed even without the posted sign
  • • If the vehicle is missing major parts, such as the engine, transmission, wheels, tires, doors, or windshield, it can be removed once the property has notified police and 24 hours have passed

What happens after the tow

We notify police, send the required notice to the registered and legal owners, and store the vehicle at our secure yard. If no one claims it, the vehicle goes through California's lien sale process, which we handle. Your property doesn't have to deal with the owner or the paperwork.

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to wait before removing an abandoned car?

It depends on which rule you use. With compliant signs posted, you can authorize removal of an unauthorized vehicle right away. Without signs, the waiting periods above apply.

Does it cost the property anything?

In a lawful private property tow, towing and storage charges are paid by the vehicle's owner when they claim it. Call us if a vehicle is a special case, such as a large truck or a vehicle with no wheels.
