Fire Lane, Hydrant, and Entrance Enforcement
A car in a fire lane is a safety problem, not just a parking problem. California allows a written agreement that lets us remove vehicles in fire lanes, near hydrants, or blocking entrances without someone from your property present for each tow.
The general authorization exception
For most private property tows, California requires the property owner, manager, or agent to sign a written authorization for each vehicle and be present to verify the violation. Vehicle Code §22658(l)(1)(E) makes an exception for vehicles parked in a fire lane, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, or interfering with an entrance to or exit from the property.
For those violations, the property and the towing company can sign a written agreement granting general authorization. The towing company then has to photograph the violation before removing the vehicle and keep those photos.
How we handle it

- • Clear red curb and fire lane markings, painted free with your agreement
- • Photos of every violation before removal, provided to the vehicle owner at no charge
- • Police notified after every tow, as the law requires
- • Vehicles stored at our secure yard within 10 miles of your property

Frequently asked questions
Can you patrol our lot and tow anyone you see?
No. California doesn't allow a towing company to decide on its own to tow ordinary parking violations. Only fire lane, hydrant, and entrance or exit violations can be covered by a general authorization. Everything else needs a signed authorization from your property for each vehicle.
What counts as blocking an entrance or exit?
A vehicle that interferes with an entrance to or exit from the property, such as one parked across a driveway opening or gate. We'll go over your property's specific layout when we set up the agreement.
